What an honor to have been a part of Governor O’Malley’s 6th Annual Buy-Local Cookout held last night at the Government House in Annapolis, Maryland. We got to share our delicious Cucumber Watermelon Salad infused with Maple Thyme Vinaigrette with local Maryland residents. The recipe was also chosen to be featured in the Maryland Department of Agriculture’s Buy Local Cookbook. Seven out of nine of the ingredients used in our salad were locally grown Maryland ingredients.

This recipe would not be complete without our local partners who supplied many of the locally grown ingredients. Special thanks to Bartenfelder Farms who supplied the red and yellow seedless watermelons, Lindemann’s Apiary who supplied honey, Distillery Lane Ciderworks for the apple cider vinegar and S & S Maple Camp Farm who supplied the maple syrup. This recipe delighted fellow Marylander’s and the Governor approved too!

It is important for us to use locally grown products and highlight small businesses because we believe they are some of the freshest and tastiest ingredients found right around the corner. Maryland residents can now make this recipe in their own homes that is nutritious and also delicious!

Zeffert and Gold had a blast participating in the cookout and we hope to bring new tasty recipes to the table next year!
